Following the success of the 2024 edition, Nomad Spirit returned in Mongolia in June 2025.

EUNIC Mongolia in partnership with the Mongolian Contemporary Art Support Association and other local institutions brought together European and Mongolian artists, schoolchildren, and other community members to explore climate change through creative expression.

This year, Nomad Spirit moved to the remote Tsagaandelger Soum, Dundgovi Province, focusing on deeper community engagement, site-specific installations, and workshops that combined art, education, and environmental action.

Over 180 participants - including children (ages 5-16), teachers, local residents, and artists from Austria, Germany, Finland, France, and Mongolia - co-created murals, sculptures, stop-motion films, and contemporary dance performances using sustainable and up-cycled materials.

I found that teacher Misheel's idea of dance was very beautiful. We discussed about the waste and garbage, how we can manage them and also worked together how we can express our thoughts through contemporary dance.

Highlights included:

  • a Public Art Day on 26 June 2025, where 120 people attended
  • 24 hands-on workshops covering different disciplines such as painting, stop-motion films and contemporary dance
  • 6 site-specific installations and mural paintings

Nomad Spirit 2025 deeply integrated environmental sustainability through its materials, themes, and collaborative methods. Artists created site-specific works using natural elements like clay, branches, wool, as well as repurposed waste such as discarded fabric and metal. By sourcing materials locally and respectfully, the project minimised its ecological footprint and emphasised ecological creativity.

It was a project that truly opened my eyes and helped me explore new creative directions... Through this experience, I gained not only artistic growth but also personal insight and transformation.

The project reached approximately 1 million people through media and social platforms and fostered lasting cultural exchange, local skill development, and a platform for environmental awareness.

With new collaborations and inspired youth, Nomad Spirit 2025 demonstrates that art is a powerful tool to engage communities with climate challenges - continuing and expanding the impact of its first edition.

We have spent 2 weeks learning a lot about freedom and self-expression... I am very grateful that our soum was selected as a local partner for this programme... for the children in the countryside, it was a great investment.
